It has a steep learning curve in comparison to built in raw converters, but its not impossible to learn and once learned you can use pretty much any raw software program. So Capture One is really designed for the professional or advanced user.

Do you need to tweak a single color? or a small grouping? Do you want to be able to do layered adjustments (such as dodge/burn) or even out the tones on skin? (btw the skin tools in all these other raw processors usually is just some form a clarity tool that destroys skin texture).

If you do use Affinity and ACDsee together, their is no need for the Ultimate version of ACDsee, you can use the pro or standard (standard for lite edits and all the same digital asset management tools of the more expensive versions).Ĭapture One is really made for a user who knows exactly what they want. However, Capture One is my first choice in raw editing. I think Affinity Photo is best bet for raw processing and as a photoshop replacement other ACDsee and is less expensive ($50 vs $150 at time of writing). Doesn't work for my needs, as I have to stay compatible with others (layered files use it own file format). It allows me to do most of the lightroom catalog features (exports, organize, catalog) but even better I can control what items are imported into the database (For searching purposes) or just browse file folders (like bridge).Īs for the raw editori? its okay. I find it actually to be the best asset management program. My thoughts on ACDsee as well as the new version 2018 really depends on what your uses are. I am a professional (which basically just means I work all day in these programs):
That's a good thing.īeen using the following software. Photoshop has a lot of extras that may or may not be important to different users: typographic tools, for example - my work as a graphic designer requires them (that alone, makes the Adobe subscription far more valuable and necessary *to me*).īottom line is ACD See is one more option for everyone to consider and it looks like a solid product that provides most (perhaps all) of the Photoshop functionality that may matter to photographers-only.

And you have the option of purchasing the Ultimate perpetual license for $150.Īs I said before, it's a matter of determining if the benefits justify the extra spending. Regarding the subscription model, the ACDSee one is substantially less expensive at $69/year. The Adobe subscription is still the best value out there - and that is an important consideration. The erase brush and frequency separation feature are pretty important in my workflow, as is support for Photoshop plugins. Having recently ditched Lightroom in favor of Capture One, maybe it's time to give ACDSee a try as a possible Photoshop replacement. Unlike most new challengers I've tried recently, this is a solid, mature product with years of refinement and customers feedback built in.
